The English Department's Trips

Key Stage Three

Year 7 attended the pantomime ‘Peter Pan’ at the Charter Theatre. The 149 pupils found this to be a very participative and enjoyable experience. They were applauded for their behaviour by staff and theatre goers.

Year 8 were taken to a screening of Oliver Twist. The 65 pupils attended to prepare for a scheme of work that they will be starting in the spring term.

40 Year 8 pupils are going on an over night trip to London in June. The purpose of which is to familiarise them with performance, stagecraft and culture whilst experiencing a West End show.

Key Stage Four

Year 10 and 11 gifted and talented pupils attended a workshop in Grasmere to work with professional writers and to improve and develop writing skills. Their behaviour was exemplary, resources were excellent and the pupils were commended for their ‘sophisticated’ attitude in comparison to most 6 th form groups. Some coursework improvement has been noted.

5 A* pupils from year 11 attended a day at St Mary’s College with OD, where the chief examiner offered lessons and resources. We were very fortunate to have 5 pupils (other schools had 1 or 2 due to markers in the department).
