Welcome to the Health and Social Care Early Years website!

We hope you find the site (and course!) useful and interesting.

The course is equivalent to 2 GCSEs, and takes 4 lessons a week for two years.

There are three units, all worth 33.33% of the final grade.

HSCEY Units:

Unit 1 involves researching two health, social care or early years settings and is assessed by portfolio. A work placement is necessary for this. Usually we research pupils’ health centres and one other area used in the placement.

Unit 2 involves researching a client’s health and producing a health plan. Pupils may choose their own client. Assessment is by portfolio.

Unit 3 involves learning about development, health and well-being, and is assessed by an external examination.

Extra lessons are available on most Mondays after school for pupils who want to boost their grades or who have been absent and need to catch up.

Portfolios are built up during the course and must be maintained on the school computer system.

People who do well on this course enjoy working hard by themselves, using computers, working with people both in and out of school, and will take ideas given to them by the teacher and come up with more of their own which they use in their work, e.g. their own research resources.
