| You are here: Library Home Page / More Than Just Books!! / Online Library Catalogue |
|
|
| You should now be aware that if you want to find information in the Library you can go there and ask or you can use the Dewey system. There is a third way; you can use the school’s computer network to search for types of books. This is how you do it: |
| |
| 1. Log in to a computer. The catalogue is available on all Library computers, and most new computers around school.
|
| 2. Click on ALL PROGRAMS |
| 3. Select LIBRARY |
| 4. Scroll across to ALICE LIBRARY and select |
| 5. You will now see this screen…… |
|
| 6. Click on the blue number 1, and then key in the word you are finding
out about (your SEARCH TERM). The word SPIDER has been keyed
into the ‘Look for’ box as an example here…. |
|
| 7. You will notice that an alphabetical list of terms appears, several of which begin with ‘SPIDER’. Choose the one you think sounds most useful and click on it. In this example, the term SPIDER was chosen. |
| 8. Click on the green arrow to bring up the next screen. This tells you that ten books have been found which contain information about spiders. |
|
| 9. You can print this list to help you search in the library. The ‘Call number’ is the Dewey number of the book. If this ends in /REF, it means that you can only read the book in the library (or borrow it overnight). |
| 10. To find out more information about a particular book, click on its title and press the green arrow. For example, selecting ‘THE MEADOW YEAR’ brings up the following screen… |
|
| 11. This tells you that the book is available to borrow, and also lists other subjects it covers, besides spiders. |
| 12. To go back to previous screens, simply use the blue arrow on the tool bar. The HOME button will take you back to the first search screen. |
