What is it?
The School Library is a non-fiction and reference library. The Fiction Library is based in D Block and is organised by the English Department.
What’s in it?
As well as 5000+ books, the Library’s collection now also includes several magazine subscriptions, SATs and GCSE revision materials, plus some excellent online reference resources (accessible from any workstation in school). Library resources are catalogued on the computerised Library Catalogue, which you can search from most workstations in school. Over 1000 useful websites are also on the catalogue and are accessible directly from it. There are 30 special study desks and 7 computers in the Library (one of which is just for searching the Library Catalogue).
Who can use it?
Everyone is welcome to use the Library at breaks, lunchtimes and before and after school. Click here for Opening Hours. You might be asked to work as an individual or a small group in the Library during lesson time, in which case your teacher will give you a Library Pass. Yr.7 pupils have a session in the Library to get to know it properly, and many will also have Guided Reading sessions with Mrs Allonby, the librarian.
What can I borrow?
If you’re in Yrs.7-9 you can borrow up to 3 items at a time, whilst Yrs.10-11 can borrow up to 4. Most books can be borrowed for 1 week (and may also be renewed, if no one else has reserved them). Books with a ‘Reference’ sticker may be borrowed for 1 night. Books labelled ‘Do not remove’ are for in-library reference use.
